Fairfax Ice Arena opened its doors on March 17, 1973. The rink is the first year-round indoor ice skating rink facility in Virginia, and in the South. In 2023, Fairfax Ice Arena celebrated its 50th anniversary with its community of athletes and employees.
Fairfax Ice Arena was founded by Eileen Weisiger. She was a successful business woman, serial entrepreneur, fashion designer, artist, model, and mother. Eileen Weisiger and her family are instrumental to bringing year-round recreational ice skating, and programs for competitive figure skating and ice hockey in the region. One of her sons, the late Edwin Berry Weisiger, spearheaded the Fairfax Hockey League, the first multi-level adult hockey league in Virginia 40 years ago.
